I’m Tashneem, a lifestyle journalist based in Delhi, India.
I like to write on a variety of topics but my field of expertise, at least what I’m trained in, is bringing out lifestyle content.
That would include things that all of us are interested in, like food, drink, travel, destinations, cinema, books, trends, fitness, people, celebrities, parenting, etc., basically whatever elements our lives are made up of.
Hence my blog is called Lifestyle Notes.
Being a journalist who was used to seeing her bylines in most newspapers and magazines; it was not my first choice to be a blogger!
But like they say, we grow only when we move ahead with the times. And the times we live in, blogging is just part and parcel of the deal for writers like me.
I started this blog years ago and never really had much time to spend on it. Today, however, I make time to post my blogs, weekly, if need be.
Having an online presence is important for my freelancing career as a lifestyle writer.
So, here I am! I’m hoping a lot of you will read my blogs and post your comments. I’d really appreciate that☺️
A little bit of backgrounder about me now: I used to work full-time earlier, in the features departments of leading media houses in the country and my last job was with the Hindustan Times, Delhi’s Sunday magazine called HT BRUNCH.
I also worked with HT City as a reporter interviewing famous, eminent personalities, was on the food beat, the glamour beat, the Page 3 beat: you name it, I’ve done it!
I also brought out a film supplement called HT Premiere.
This was in addition to training people at the Mumbai HT lifestyle supplement HT Style.
After years of working with the best people in the industry, I chose to go independent.
As a freelancer, I have written for all the major newspapers, magazines and websites in India, in a career spanning 21 years to date.
Notable among those who have published my work are the Times of India newspaper, TOI Crest, HT MINT, SpiceRoute magazine, New Indian Express newspaper, Femina magazine, Prevention, Men’s Health, Marie Claire, Good Housekeeping, websites like Shaadi.com, Livingfoodz.com, the EMM group, Media Transasia–Asia Spa, Millionaire Asia, Child, Discover India, Doc & Doc of Crossword Publications, US edition of travel portal travelmole.com.
I have also written a regular parenting column for the Chandigarh edition of the Daily Post newspaper. I have worked on two books, the HT City Food Guide and the HT City Salon guide, while being a staffer there.
I actually started working when I was still in college and had not even completed my graduation. So it’s been really long:)
I’m married to a lawyer and I have two young boys, the reason why I work from home. And like most women the world over, I’m striving to find that perfect balance of work and family. I know, it’s very hard sometimes!
Along with writing lifestyle content, I have also ventured into writing fiction. It’s a new thing for me, though most of my drafts have waiting to see the light of day since my time in college .
Thankfully, I managed to get out my first collection of short stories/flash fiction and yet another of Haiku poetry, both published on Juggernaut books, last year. My work has also featured on Novella.co.in
On this platform, I’d like to exhibit my writing, form, style, structure and impeccable command over the English language, simply because I want you to enjoy reading what I write.
The second reason being, getting to do more quality work as a freelancer.
I do not do press releases or write PR content. If I like something or I don’t, you’ll get my honest opinion here.
Please connect with me, drop a line, share thoughts as we begin this incredible journey of writing, reading, loving articles, books, thoughts, opinions and ideas.
There truly is nothing more interesting than a well-read person and I’m looking forward to interacting with fellow bloggers, writers and anybody who has the same passion as I do.
Do come aboard!
